Dr. Marian Vanhoeij obtained her medical degree from the VUB and specialized in general surgery at the UZ Brussel and ASZ Aalst. After an additional year of specialization in abdominal surgery, she joined the Oncology, Thoracic, and Transplant Surgery Department in 2007.

Since 2019, she has been responsible for the day-to-day running of the Breast Clinic and is the coordinating internship supervisor for Surgery at the VUB.

She focuses on informed decision-making, oncoplastic and breast-conserving surgery, and avoiding unnecessary surgical treatments such as axillary lymph node dissection.

As chair of the multidisciplinary team for breast cancer treatment, she also ensures that decisions are based on guidelines and scientific studies.

At the national level, she is President of the Belgian Section for Breast Surgery, a member of the Belgian Board of Oncology, and co-chair of the Breast Cancer Guidelines working group.
